Disney bought Marvel!!
Let me just say right off the bat, I know nothing about business. I do however, know a thing or two about common sense. Yahoo reports say that Marvel has been bought out by what I consider a ‘cheap’ $4 Billion. You can read the full article here. With the recent explosion of comic-book related films in the last 10 years alone, Marvel has banked quite a profit margin. Not to mention continuing comic book series, television shows, video games, and other marketable merchandise. This is all somewhat related to an essay I submitted earlier this month about comic books as film adaptations. You can read that here.
If you own Marvel shares, as of this morning (Aug. 31, 2009) they went up a whopping 26%, will receive and extra $30 in cash from every share you own, and were given 0.745 shares of Disney for every Marvel share you own! Disney shares have dropped about 3% on this day but don’t worry. I’m sure that prices in those stocks will rise very soon. The deal takes full effect by the end of the year.
