Mortal Kombat Rebirth
NOTICE: REMEMBER THE NAME
What is becoming now as the biggest risk (and trend) in the movie industry is making (and remaking) movies based on video games. So much legal tape has to be crossed and most game developers and masterminds don’t allow their games to be adapted into films. Two movies that come to mind as being two of the worst adaptations of all time, and frankly two of the worst movies I’ve ever seen ever, are “Super Mario Bros“. and “Double Dragon.” Most recently, Jerry Bruckheimer helped release “Prince of Persia.” All my skepticism and cynicism went out the door when I saw the newest adaptation… and that was a promotional video on YouTube! Kevin Tancharoen is only 22 years old and has worked as a producer mostly with MTV but made the film to try to convince Producers that he can direct and make a genre film. Well, he convinced me and over 2 million other viewers who have seen his short film on YouTube that was posted on June 7. You can read a full interview with him here. But here’s the breakdown:
It was filmed in 2 days, spent about 2 months in post-production and was shot on 2 RED cameras for only $7500. Michael Jai White (who played Jax) is enthusiastic and anxious to be signed on for the feature film. The script was written by Oren Uziel and is signed to write the feature film according to IMDB. The main fight scene in the short was shot in only 4 hours.
