The Avengers… SMASH!!
Stan Lee has got to be the most popular senior citizen in the world. Who wouldn’t want him as a grandfather? But I digress as I always do. “The Avengers” opened a few weeks ago but I waited for the hype to die down a little bit so I can actually go to the movies without having to stand in line hours before just to maybe get a decent seat. In this latest Marvel masterpiece, Loki, an evil tyrant hungry for power from another world comes down to Earth to rage war.
Assembled with not the most honest of intentions by the guy who is every office’s HR nightmare, Nick Fury, calls upon all these heroes (Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, and Hawkeye) by means of deceit, deception, lies, and bribes. But as they see the kind of terror that Loki brings upon New York, they are able to put egos and differences aside for the greater good.
Joss Whedon wrote and directed an amazing Marvel adaptation. He managed to piece together a great script that gives each character a nearly equal number of shared screen time, a great dynamic between them, and made a 2 and a half hour movie feel like it was under two hours long. Obviously if you’re a Marvel junkie, you’ll love this movie. But even if you’re not, there’s not a real requirement to have an extensive knowledge of the history of the Marvel Universe. It’s a great action movie with lots of funny one-liners, incredible fight scenes, mind-blowing special effects, and leaves you wanting more. (That’s why there’s the teaser for the sequel after the credits.)
