El Pichy Films – Big Bird a lo Cubano

¡Oye mi gente! 3-0-5 till I die!

And that’s enough of that…

My fellow readers and fans (if I have any), I’d like to share with you today something of epically funny and of very personal relevance to me. As you all know, I was born and raised in Miami and now live in Los Angeles. I’ve always said that Miami is another planet onto itself; there’s truly is no place like it. And I’m not just talking about the people, language, food, humidity, hurricanes, nightlife, beaches, parties, and the way we have successfully removed ourselves from being considered part of “the south.”

If you look hard enough on Facebook (or you could just ask me and I’ll send them to you), there are constant memes, videos, and lists that are so accurate to my fiancé and I, but are so foreign and downright strange to an outside observer.

In the spirit of all that, I’d like to present to you probably one of the funniest YouTube Channels you’ve never heard of called “El Pichy Films.”

Cuban-born Alejandro Gonzalez and Maikel Rodriguez immigrated to Miami and back in 2008 turned their joke idea into a sustainable business and production company. Now partnered with Miami’s hottest music producers and music video directors, they’ve been able to incorporate their own personal flavor and style into some of the most hilarious music videos you’ll ever see. They even have a website where they sell Miami-related T-shirts and it even has a dictionary for texting shorthand “a lo Cubano” (in Cuban form) called iSPEAKMIAMI.com.

One of the funniest videos I’ve seen of theirs was the one they made in response to what Mitt Romney said back in one of the 2012 Presidential debates regarding public funding and considering to “cancel Big Bird.” You can see all their videos dubbing some of your favorite childhood movies like Harry Potter, The Lion King, even Scarface. Check this out and if you’re not from Miami, break out the Spanish/English dictionary.
